CLAY COUNTY, Kan. (KAKE) - Authorities have arrested a 27-year-old man for a hit-and-run crash that killed an 82-year-old northeast Kansas man on Thursday. 

The incident happened shortly before 7 a.m. on U.S. 24 about a mile east of Clay Center. The Kansas Highway Patrol reports an eastbound Chevy Silverado went into the westbound lane, went into a ditch and struck a Buick sedan in a driveway.

The man in the Buick, Dale Hammond of Clay Center, died at the scene. 

KHP says that following the crash, the driver of the Silverado, Jacob Zelinski, fled the scene on foot. He was found and arrested shortly after.
