ANDOVER, Kan. (KAKE) - Two people are in critical condition after crews responded to a house fire in Andover Monday morning. 

The fire was reported at around 9:45 a.m. in the 600 block of West Allison Street. Chief Chad Russell with the Andover Fire Department said a neighbor reported the fire and that two elderly disabled people were possibly trapped inside.   

Firefighters arrived to find fire at the rear of the home that had moved into the attic. Crews also removed a man and a woman from the house. Both were hospitalized in critical condition. 

Fire crews encountered heavy smoke in the house as they conducted the rescue.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
