Wichita man arrested following standoff connected to domestic violence incident

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - A 20-year-old from Wichita has been arrested following a standoff in west Wichita standoff connected to domestic violence incident. 

Markel Henderson has been arrested on charges of: 

Police say that all of the charges allegedly stem from a domestic violence incident that took place Sunday evening. At around 5:18 p.m., officers were sent to the 7000 block of West Freeman for a domestic violence disturbance with a weapon.

A 911 caller reported that Henderson was inside a home on Freeman and threatened multiple people with a gun. The 911 caller and another victim reported leaving the house, but Henderson was still inside.

Officers were able to make contact with Henderson, who exited the home and was arrested shortly before 8:00 p.m.

Henderson was transported to the Sedgwick County Jail.


Previous story 

A suspect has been taken into custody following a police response to a domestic violence call.

Officers responded to the call in the 7000 block of W. Freeman, near Central and Ridge just before 5:30 p.m. At that point, they asked the public via tweet to avoid the area or, if in the area, to stay indoors. 

A 20-year-old man was making threats to other members of his family. Police deemed it a 'reasonable threat' and a SWAT team was sent to the location to make sure people stayed safe.
