WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - A Sedgwick County Fire Department employee has been arrested for sex crimes, the county announced Wednesday.

Jail records show 23-year-old Michael Cowherd, of Clearwater, was booked at around 5:45 p.m. on suspicion of thee counts of aggravated sexual battery. He was jailed on $75,000 bond Thursday morning but did not appear on the jail's website as of noon. 

The county said in a release that the Fire Dist. 1 employee is on suspension pending the determination of the district attorney's office and the outcome of an internal investigation. 

The county did not release case details, citing the ongoing investigation. 

Fire Dist. 1 serves Andale, Bel Aire, Bentley, Furley, Garden Plain, Goddard, Haysville, Maize, Oaklawn-Sunview, Park City, Peck, Viola, and many areas of unincorporated Sedgwick County, according to the county's website.
