WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - The Wichita Police Department (WPD) has arrested 41-year-old Pearl James Haynes IV of Wichita on 2 charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, criminal damage to property, robbery, evade and elude, DUI, resisting arrest, and battery of a law enforcement officer.
 
The arrests stem from a domestic violence investigation and robbery from person investigation.
 
At approximately 9:20 pm Friday, officers were dispatched to a domestic violence with weapon call in the 6700 block of W. Par Lane involving Haynes and a 34-year-old female. Officers arrived on the scene and spoke to the woman, who stated Haynes showed up at her house intoxicated and began breaking several items in her apartment.
 
Officers saw Haynes flee from the front of the apartment and they gave chase. Haynes jumped a privacy fence. Officers heard eight gunshots coming from where Haynes landed, putting officers on high alert. They immediately took cover and waited for more officers to arrive.
 
At approximately 11:15 pm, a resident in the 1300 block of South Westfield called 911 stating Haynes was at his residence banging on the door, saying he was on the run from the police.
 
Officers made their way to the Westfield location. Unmarked units were in the area when they witnessed Haynes flee on an ATV.
 
A brief pursuit took place, with police taking Haynes into custody after he attempted to turn the ATV in the 200 block of South Byron Ct and tipped it on its side. He would be taken into custody in the 300 block of South Keith.
 
Wichita Police say that incidents such as these are dangerous not only to our community but the officers making the arrests. 
 
The victim at Par Lane and Westfield are known to Haynes.
 
This case will be presented to the District Attorney’s Office in the coming weeks.
