Wichita’s Civitan Club, old fire station, up for auction
WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - A historic Riverside property in Wichita goes up for auction Tuesday.
McCurdy Real Estate and Auction is selling Wichita’s Civitan Club’s building at 901 N Porter Avenue. The online auction begins at 2 p.m. and ends Thursday, March 23 at 2:10 p.m.
“It’s a total volunteer organization,” auctioneer Rick Brock said. “So, you've got memberships of course that are kind of shrinking at different organizations such as this, and they just don't need the facility.”
The building was originally Wichita’s Fire Station Seven, built in the 1920’s. Civitans International took it over in the 1970’s.
“Just lots of history, as you can see on the walls,” Brock said.
The property includes a main space, kitchen, storage room and closets, bathrooms and an unattached garage/shop. It is zoned as B Multi-Family, and Brock said this offers flexibility for a potential buyer.
“Any type of community organization, I think on that list were things like a daycare, obviously, you know, a church facility could occupy the property,” he said.
“It could be converted to a single family home, duplex is on that list.”
McCurdy is hosting an open house at the building Monday, March 20 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Click here to register for the auction and learn more about the property.
“There's coffee shops, there's cafes, there's barbershops, there's different things as you go throughout the Riverside area that have always been unique uses, and I think that's just part of the Riverside charm that this property has,” Brock said.
