LIBERAL, Kan. (KAKE) - Police in Texas have arrested a 22-year-old man in connection to a Kansas house fire and the deaths of his parents.

Liberal police and fire officials responded just before 1 a.m. Monday to a fire in the 900 block of Maple Blvd. Arriving units found an unconscious woman just inside the front door, police said in a release. She was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Once the fire was extinguished, crews found a man dead inside the home.

The victims were later identified as 57-year-old Valentin Rey and 50-year-old Rosalia Rey. Police have not released cause of death. A GoFundMe has been set up to help cover funeral expenses.

At around 5:45 a.m. police in Texas were informed of the suspect driving a white KIA Optima southbound toward Hamlin on US 83. According to police, the driver of the car, Hector Jesus Rey, was threatening "suicide by cop."

Hamlin Police Chief Bobby Evans traveled north on US 83 and found the car 10 miles out of Hamlin. He followed the car into Hamlin where Officer Joseph Benavides pulled in behind Evans. Evans made the decision not to attempt a traffic stop inside the city and was informed that Deputy Teddy Beasley was north on US 83 from Anson.

Once Beasley was in the area, a high-risk traffic stop was conducted. The driver hesitated initially but finally exited the vehicle and was taken into custody.

Rey, son of the victims, was booked into Jones County Jail. It's unclear when he will be extradited to Kansas.
