LAWRENCE, Kan. (KAKE) - Kansas once again is a top seed in the NCAA Tournament after claiming the Big 12 regular season championship and finishing the year with a 27-7 record.

Kansas will now head to Des Moines, Iowa to start its run as the No. 1 seed in the West, a route that could see them playing in Kansas City the second weekend if they advance past the first two rounds.

Kansas was the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament last year as well as the top seed in the Midwest region.

KU will play No. 16 seed Howard on Thursday and if they advance they'd take on the winner of Arkansas and Illinois.

Kansas Athletics also announced today that head coach Bill Self will rejoin the team this upcoming week after a health scare during the Big 12 Tournament. He spent the week at the University of Kansas hospital in Kansas City the last four days before being released Sunday afternoon.
