Patrol identifies Wichita teen killed in crash near Newton

NEWTON, Kan. (KAKE) - The Kansas Highway Patrol says a young woman was killed and a woman suffered injuries in a crash near Newton on Friday.
The accident happened at around 1 p.m. on K-15 between NE 48th and NE 60th streets, which is just north of Newton. The patrol's crash log states a southbound Honda Accord left the roadway to the right and then the driver over corrected, sending the car into a skid. The Honda entered the northbound lane and an oncoming SUV attempted to avoid the car. Both vehicles collided as they entered the east ditch.
The driver of the Honda, 19-year-old Lillyan Koehn of Wichita, died at the scene. The 40-year-old Newton woman driving the SUV was taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

The incident happened shortly after 1:30 p.m. Police say a car was traveling south on K-15 between Northeast 48th and 60th streets when it crossed the center line into the northbound lane. An SUV, traveling north, attempted to maneuver to avoid the car. The SUV collided with the side of the car as they entered the east ditch.
The driver of the southbound car, a girl in her teens, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the northbound SUV, a woman in her 40s, was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
There were no passengers in either vehicle.
An investigation is ongoing.
