THURSDAY AM UPDATE:

The area of low pressure that will bring the rain and snow to KAKEland is shifting a bit further south and as a result, the "precip" chances are looking slimmer for most.

Light rain and snow possible across Western and North Central Kansas through the day on Thursday with chances in South Central Kansas increasing late in the day. Based on the temperatures, it looks like most of the precipitation will be a mix of rain and snow. The trend with this system has been an overall decrease in totals, with the latest model data depicting less than 1" of accumulation!

With the overall reduction in potential snow, we've adjusted our forecast down. It now appears that just about everyone will pick up less than 1" with very little impact expected.

Drivers Friday morning in Wichita may see some light snow coming down and while we are not expecting a crippling system, a few isolated slick spots can't be ruled out. Drivers Friday morning should plan on wet roads.

WEDNESDAY AM UPDATE:

After mild days in the 60s across KAKEland, winter like weather returns to KAKEland late Wednesday through Thursday. Our next weather maker will bring a shot of March snow as well as some light rain to the state.

Snow will start in Northwest Kansas, late Wednesday night into very early Thursday morning. The snow is expected to continue across the western portion of the state through the morning hours. During the day on Thursday, some light rain is expected for North and South Central Kansas, with the heaviest falling South and East of the Kansas Turnpike.

As the area of low pressure tracks eastward the cold air will also shift east, brings the I-135 corridor a shot of snow late Thursday into very early Friday morning.

Agreement amongst some of the major weather models has been relatively low, but the GFS, GRAF and Euro are painting the heaviest snow across Northwest Kansas. While the NAM has been coming in much more aggressive on both sides of the state.

At this point, we believe the best chance of accumulating snow will be across Northwest Kansas where 1 to 3" of accumulation will be possible. Locations along and North or Interstate 70 will pick up less than 1" of accumulation, while locations south will see slim to none on the ground.

Overall impact with this event is expected to be relatively low. Some slick spots will be possible especially across extreme Northwest Kansas during the day Thursday.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch across Northwest Kansas. This will likely be upgraded to a Winter Weather Advisory or Winter Storm Warning by Thursday morning.
