GALENA, Kan. (KAKE) - Authorities have identified the remains of a man found in a southwest Kansas field last last month.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation said Thursday that 52-year-old Peter Wittington's remains were found the afternoon of February 27 in a field near 11th and Wood streets in Galena. The Carthage, Missouri man last spoke to his family in late 2022.

Law enforcement is awaiting the final autopsy results, but the KBI said the investigation did not indicate any evidence of foul play.

The KBI is investigating a man's decomposing body that has been found in a field near 11th St. and Wood St. in Galena, Kan. Monday afternoon.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation said that around 3:30 p.m. they were called out to assist the Galena Police Department in investigating a decomposing body found in a field.

The body has yet to be identified due to its condition and authorities are unsure what caused the man's death. The investigation is ongoing and an autopsy has been scheduled.
