Inmate assaulted at Sedgwick County Jail

SEDGWICK COUNTY, Kan. (KAKE) – A 37-year-old man from Wichita was assaulted with a makeshift weapon by another inmate at Sedgwick County Jail.
Jail officials say the incident happened on February 24 at around 9:00 a.m.
The victim was taken to a local area hospital by emergency medical services, treated for their injuries, and released back to the jail.
The 37-year-old black man from Wichita has been in custody since November 3, 2022, and was booked on theft and possession w/ intent to use drug paraphernalia.
The suspect is a 41-year-old black man from Wichita. He has been in custody since January 13, 2021, booked on two counts of first-degree murder.
Jail officials note that the motive for the assault is unknown and it is unknown if the incident was gang-related.
An investigation is ongoing.
