VALLEY CENTER, Kan. (KAKE) – A woman from Newton has been killed in a crash Friday afternoon in Valley Center. 

The Kansas Highway Patrol said that shortly after 3 p.m. on Friday, 26-year-old Rebecca Shields was driving south on I-135 when she crossed the middle lane and was hit by a semi. Shields was pronounced dead at the scene.

 Authorities are unsure what caused Shields to cross into oncoming traffic but they do not believe that the weather was to blame.

The investigation is ongoing.
