WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - The Wichita Police Department (WPD) is investigating a shooting that injured a 17-year-old Wichita teen during the commission of a robbery.

Just before 6:00 pm Tuesday, dispatchers sent officers to the 200 block of N. Rock Road for a shooting call. When they arrived, witnesses informed officers that they saw a teenager with a gunshot wound to one of his legs leaving the scene in a dark-colored vehicle, direction unknown.

During the investigation, 911 dispatch made the officers aware of a walk-in victim at a local hospital with a gunshot wound to his lower body. The victim matched the description given to officers by witnesses. The victim drove himself to the hospital and was released the next day. 

The victim spoke with officers and based on the information, investigators were able to determine the circumstances that led to the shooting. It was not a random incident and the investigation is ongoing.
