Kansas woman, child killed in head-on crash, patrol says
PARSONS, Kan. (KAKE) - A woman and child have died and two others were hospitalized following a head-on crash in southeast Kansas.
The collision was reported just after 8:30 p.m. Monday on U.S. 400 about four miles west of Parsons. The Kansas Highway Patrol says an eastbound Buick Park Avenue went left of center and struck an oncoming Chevy Silverado.
The patrol reports two people in the Buick, 30-year-old Valerie Montgomery of Parsons, and an unidentified juvenile, were killed. Montgomery was not wearing a seat belt.
The 41-year-old Thayer man driving the pickup was being treated for minor injuries, and his 33-year-old female passenger had serious injuries. They were not wearing seat belts, KHP says.
It's unclear what caused Montgomery to veer into oncoming traffic.
Editor's note: The online Kansas Highway Patrol crash log no longer provides identifying information, including age and gender, regarding juveniles.
