WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - Wichita police say they have arrested a man and woman after their toddler reportedly got a hold of a gun and shot the woman in the foot.

Kianna Nweji, 22, and Marlon Jones, are jailed on suspicion of aggravated child endangerment. Jones also faces a count of distribution of hallucinogens.

Officers responded at around 11:30 a.m. Thursday to the report of a shooting in the 1200 block of North Lorraine, near 13th and Hillside. While police were en route to the scene, Jones allegedly fled to a nearby home on 11th Street.

Officers spotted him walking back from the area and contacted Nweji in her home with a gunshot wound to the foot. She was treated at a local hospital.

"The investigation revealed that Nweji and Jones were both lying in bed when their 2-year-old child had gotten ahold of a gun and accidentally shot Nweji," Officer Chad Ditch said in a release.

Officer Ditch said Jones took the gun to the home on 11th Street where an acquaintance lives. That's where Ditch said investigators found the gun along with an AR-15. People in the house on 11th Street told police they didn't know how the guns got there.

The child was placed in protective custody. The investigation is ongoing.
