WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - A Wichita mother tells KAKE News her daughter is okay after a scary situation Wednesday night in Planeview.

Shayla Nalley said a stranger approached her daughter and two other girls around 7:30 p.m. She said the three girls were walking across the street.

“He was talking to them, and they said that he went to grab for them and asked them if they wanted to have sex,” Nalley said. “And then that's when the girls took off into the house to tell their dad.”

Nalley said she and the other girls’ parents quickly went outside. She saw an on-duty police officer patrolling the area just steps away near the intersection of Yale and Dunham and told them what happened.

“They were very terrified,” she said. “I was scared, but knowing that I raised her right, 'cause she reacted very strongly and very quickly.”

Wichita Police arrested 43-year-old Damien Henderson in the case on three counts of aggravated criminal solicitation of a child and several warrants. Investigators said police found Henderson near K-15 and 31st Street.

“It does take a village to raise children, especially now in this generation, so thankfully there are trusting adults that are out there that are able to help,” neighbor Brenda Munoz said.

This incident happened nearly one week after Wichita Police said a different man kidnapped three children, and sexually assaulted two of them, in southeast Wichita.

“Stay close to home and, you know, stranger danger, you know, if you don't know anyone, then just a little wave is fine and go back inside, you know, alert parents,” Munoz said.

Police said none of the girls, ages 7 to 13, were injured in the incident. Nalley said her daughter was back at school Thursday.

“We're going to install lights on the side of our house and my neighbor's house so the kids can have more visibility of their surroundings,” Nalley said.
