PEABODY, Kan. (KAKE) - A Kansas man says seven of his 15 alpacas were shot, five of them fatally, over the weekend and a sixth died days later.

In a Facebook post Monday, the Marion County Sheriff's Office said the incident happened sometime Sunday night in the 800 block of Old Mill Road, which is just north of Peabody. Five alpacas were missing Monday, but their owner, Jeff Methvin, said Tuesday that they had been accounted for.

Methvin said he didn't hear anything and doesn't know what time the incident happened. He noticed one by the road the next morning and found several dead in their pens. All had been shot in roughly the same spot on the cheek.

"It's a lot that the alpacas got killed, but its probably more knowing that someone came onto our place with a gun," Methvin said. "I guess that's the world we live in.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Deputy Miles with the Marion County Sheriff's Office at (620) 382-2144.
