Wichita police to conduct DUI saturation patrol on New Year's weekend
WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - If you have plans to head out and have a few drinks in Wichita to ring in the new year, local police could be looking for you.
The Wichita Police Department said its Traffic Section will conduct a saturation patrol this weekend as part of the statewide "Taking Down DUI" campaign.
"Extra traffic officers will be patrolling citywide to remove impaired drivers from the street," WPD said. "Remember if you are going out, have a plan to get home without driving impaired."
The Kansas Department of Transportation says the New Year's holiday period outranks most other holidays in number of crashes in which at least one of the drivers is impaired by alcohol and/or other drugs.
"These crashes do not just affect the impaired driver; these crashes involve others that share the vehicle and road with us - passengers, other motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians," KDOT said.
