(KAKE) - The body of a 41-year-old Kansas woman was found in an empty shipping container in a port near the city of Taichung on Wednesday, November 16, according to police.

According to Taiwan News, the container left Los Angeles in late October and was unloaded on November 16th. The woman's body was found inside along with her belongings, which included a wallet and a black and red handbag.

An initial post-mortem examination revealed no injuries. The initial police investigation indicated that the woman had been dead for awhile.

The woman was identified through her belongings and by matching her name and photo from a social media account.

The American Institute of Taiwan, the de-facto U.S. embassy, has been notified of the incident.
