Wichita elementary school closed due to illness, lack of substitutes
WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - An elementary school in south Wichita says it will be closed for the rest of the week due to widespread illnesses and the inability to find substitute teachers.
Colvin Elementary said Facebook post that the school is closed Thursday and Friday "because of staffing challenges due to Illnesses and the inability to find substitutes."
The school is expected to reopen on Monday. A spokesperson from Wichita Public School said Colvin is the only school that is closed or seeing a high number of staff absences.

"All families should make arrangements for care of their child during the school day. Being out of school will allow our staff to recover and for us to be able to get back to educating and supporting our students. Custodial staff will continue to clean the school while students and staff are away.
"I am happy to share that we will be able to provide Grab and Go meals on Thursday for Thursday and Friday. Please come to Colvin on Thursday, December 8 from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. to pick up your Grab and Go meals inside the main entrance of Colvin. Each student will receive a bag that contains 2 breakfasts and 2 lunches. Students do not need to be present to receive a meal but must be a student of Colvin. Meal prices are based upon the student’s free, reduced or paid meal status and will be charged to the student account. If you have any questions about Grab and Go meals, you can call Nutrition Services at 973-2160.
"Once we return to the building, we will continue to need your support. Please keep your child home if they are sick."
