TOPEKA, Kan. (KAKE) - After pulling over a suspected stolen vehicle, a Topeka police officer shot and killed a man after the man showed the officer his gun.

Topeka police say that on December 1, shortly before 7:00 a.m., an officer initiated a traffic stop on a stolen vehicle occupied by a man in the east alley of the 2000 block of SW Lincoln Street.

During the traffic stop, the man showed the officer that he had a gun. In fear for their life, the officer fired their gun and hit the suspect. The officer was not injured in the incident.

The man was later pronounced dead and they will not be identified until next of kin notifications have been made.

TPD says that per policy, the involved officer has been placed on administrative leave while the incident is investigated.

An investigation is underway.
