Patrol: Pickup truck ends up in canal after trying to pass school bus on I-135
WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - The Kansas Highway Patrol says a collision between a school bus and a pickup truck in south Wichita sent the pickup over the I-135 barrier wall and into the canal.
It happened at around 9 a.m. Thursday on Interstate 135 near Pawnee. The patrol reports the southbound bus went to move from the center lane to the left lane when a 1997 Chevy Silverado quickly moved from the far right lane to the left lane and attempted to pass the bus. This caused the bus to pin the pickup against the barrier wall. It then went over the wall and into the canal.
The 25-year-old man driving the pickup, his 28-year-old female passenger and the 33-year-old woman driving the bus were not hurt. There were no children on the bus at the time of the crash.
