MONMOUTH, Kan. (KAKE) - A 33-year-old man driving the wrong way on a southeast Kansas highway was killed Monday evening when his pickup truck crashed head-on into another vehicle, the Kansas Highway Patrol says.

The accident happened shortly before 8 p.m. on U.S. 400 about six miles west of K-7 on the Crawford-Cherokee county line. The patrol reports Dakota Jones was driving east in the westbound lanes when his Dodge pickup hit an oncoming Buick LaCrosse.

Jones, of Weir, died at the scene. The 36-year-old man driving the Buick suffered serious injuries and was transported to a hospital in Joplin, Missouri.

It's unclear why Jones was driving the wrong way on U.S. 400.
