Kansas man gets life in prison for abuse death of 3-year-old boy
ULYSSES, Kan. (KAKE) - A 29-year-old southwest Kansas man has been sentenced to life in prison for killing his girlfriend's 3-year-old son in 2019.
Attorney General Derek Schmidt said Uraquio Agustin Arredondo was sentenced Tuesday in Grant County District Court. He will not be eligible for parole for 25 years on the first-degree murder conviction. Judge Clinton Peterson also sentenced him to 110 months for child abuse. The sentences will run consecutively.
Arredondo was convicted in April for the death of Carlos Valenzuela III.
On February 25, 2019, officers and EMS were called to a Ulysses home for the report of an unresponsive child. Carlos was taken to a local hospital and then to Denver for treatment. He died two days later.
Arredondo was in a relationship with child’s mother, the KBI said.
