Wichita men get probation for sexual battery of 17-year-old girl
WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - The second of two people accused of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl last year has been sentenced to probation.
The Sedgwick County district attorney's office said 21-year-old Ethan Garrett was sentenced Tuesday to 24 months of probation with an underlying prison sentence of 122 months, meaning that he is subject to 122 months in prison if he violates probation.
Judge David Kaufman also ordered Garrett to undergo sex offender treatment and pay restitution.
The co-defendant in the case, 20-year-old David Clark, received the same probation sentence last week. Both previously pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated sexual battery and sexual exploitation of a child.
Wichita police initially arrested the pair in June 2021, Clark for two counts of rape and Garrett for one count each of rape and aggravated sexual battery.
The victim told police she was sexually assaulted while at a friend's house. She said she was in an incoherent state and the incident was recorded and posted on Snapchat.
