WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - The family of a 21-year-old Wichita man who police say was shot and killed nearly two weeks ago at a south Wichita mobile home park say his loss has been difficult to process.

The shooting happened at around 1:30 a.m. on September 15 in the 4500 block of South Hydraulic. Wichita police said the victim, Devin Bills, and several other people were outside a home when there was an argument and Bills was shot twice. He died at the scene.

"I got a text from my mother while I was at work," said JacQuita Penn, Devin's cousin and family spokeswoman. "She told me it was Devin. I had to take an emergency break."

Penn said Bills was a good guy, who would give the shirt off his back to help others. She added that he was married and the father of two kids that will now have to grow up without him.

"To be honest, closure, especially in this case, it's hard," said Penn.

The most difficult part for the family, Penn said, has been the suspect arrested in connection to the case, 19-year-old Laquavion Bentley.

"[He] was his best friend, they grew up together...was even living with [Devin] for awhile," said Penn. "We don't know why, we can't say, you know why, but this is very traumatic for us."

The investigation into Bills death and the cause of the shooting continues.
