Crime Stoppers: Burglars attempt to steal guns from Wichita pawnshop, settle for bicycles
WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - Wichita police are looking for three brazen burglars who tried to get away with a stash of runs. It happened on July 11 around 3 a.m. Surveillance video captured three men break through a glass window at the A-OK Pawn Shop near Central and West Street and head straight to the gun rack.
They tried to steal the firearms, but they were all locked to the wall. That's when manager Martin Swanson says the thieves stole bikes and rode away.
"You don't feel great, when you walk up and see windows smashed," said Swanson. "You know something's happened. It's not a good feeling."
Wichita police later found the stolen bikes at a motel on south Broadway along with more evidence.
"There was stolen property from other properties," said Wichita Police Officer Trevor Macy. "So, we're pretty confident that these guys have stolen other things in the past."
The loss to the pawn shop was about $1,000.
"We work really hard," said Swanson. "We're a private business so every loss hits us."
Swanson and police both hope someone will identify the thieves before they strike again.
"Getting them caught is important," said Swanson. "I don't know if they'll do it again, but I don't want them to do it to me or anybody else."
