Victim identified after deadly south Wichita crash
The Wichita Police Department identified the victim killed in an accident Friday night in south Wichita.
Shortly after 10:15 p.m., officers were sent to the collision near 58th and Broadway. They found Theodore Nance, 52, of Wichita, who had been hit by an SUV. EMS tried to revive him, but he died at the scene.
During the investigation, officers found that Nance was crossing Broadway, from southwest to northeast, with a lawn mower. He was not using a crosswalk and was struck by an SUV traveling north on Broadway. The 62-year-old driver was not hurt.
While the accident remains under investigation, Wichita Police said there is no indication that the driver was impaired or driving fast.
This is the 20th fatality collision of the year, and the 23rd death from those collisions in Wichita.
Investigators are hoping to find more information from witnesses after a deadly crash Friday night in south Wichita.
The accident took place after 10 p.m. near 58th and Broadway. Wichita Police Lt. Keith Fort said a person called 911 to report the accident. When officers arrived, they found a man who had been hit by a north-bound driver. Paramedics tried to revive the man, but he died at the scene.
“We’re still investigating whether or not there was speed involved,” Fort said. “We have officers on scene. We are looking for some witnesses that were on scene earlier that may have left before officers arrived.”
Officers are also looking to see if people have footage of the accident or any time around then, Fort said, as they piece together what took place.
