South Carolina couple charged in 2010 murder case
WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - A couple accused in a 2010 murder case are back in Kansas to face charges.
The couple are facing accusations in the shooting death of 19-year-old German Clerici. Clerici's body was found in a culvert east of Augusta in February of 2010, just days after he was reported missing.
The couple was arrested earlier this month in South Carolina.
Kristopher Valadez was charged with second-degree murder, while Candace Valadez was charged with aiding a felon.
The couple is currently free on bond.
Authorities have arrested two people in connection to the death of a Wichita man whose body was found in a Butler County culvert in 2010.
Butler County Sheriff's Office said in a release that sheriff's officials went to Simpsonville, South Carolina on Sunday and, with help of Wichita police and the local sheriff's office, arrested 32-year-old Kristopher Valadez and 32-year-old Candace Valadez.
Both are former Wichita residents are expected to be extradited to Sedgwick County to face charges.
Nineteen-year-old German Clerici's mother reported him missing in early February of 2010, after she had not heard from him for a few days. The sheriff's office said Clerici was found shot to death in a culvert east of Augusta several days later. His car was found near 21st and Hillside in Wichita in June of that year.
The release said Butler County Sheriff Monty Hughey had investigators take a fresh look at the case last year.
"Information was discovered that prompted investigators to conduct follow-up interviews un-covering even more information along with new evidence," the sheriff's office said.
The release did not provide a motive for the crime.
