Inmate suspected of murder following man’s remains being found in Ellsworth County

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - Following an investigation into human remains found earlier this month in Ellsworth County, the Salina Police Department say they have identified Joseph Benton Houseman as the suspect in the case.
Houseman, who is 48-years-old and from Salina, is currently in Saline County Jail being held on unrelated charges. He is now a suspect in the death of Nathan Phillip Thompson.
SPD has requested that the charges in the case involving the death of Nathan Thompson include:
- First-degree murder.
- Aggravated arson.
- Arson.
- Felony interference with law enforcement.
- Criminal desecration.
An investigation is ongoing.
