SALINA, Kan. (KAKE) - The Kansas Highway Patrol says a 38-year-old woman died and two others were hospitalized following a crash east of Salina on Sunday.

The accident happened at around 4:30 p.m. on East Magnolia Road near South Niles Road. The patrol reports an eastbound Jeep Commander went left of center and collided head-on with an oncoming Dodge Ram 3500 that was hauling a trailer.

The driver of the Dodge, Jennifer Wangerin of Salina, died at the scene. An 11-year-old boy in the pickup was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The 16-year-old Solomon boy driving the Jeep suffered serious injuries and was taken to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

It's unclear what caused the Jeep to veer into oncoming traffic. The patrol's online crash log states no one involved was wearing a seat belt.
