Wind Surge unveil details on hotel development, 'Ballpark District' plans
“Today is another exciting day, we take a step forward in fulfilling the vision of the project surrounding the ballpark.” That is how Wichita Wind Surge and Wichita Riverfront LP CEO Jordan Kobritz described plans to build a luxury hotel right across Riverfront stadium, near McLean and Maple.
On Tuesday, the team unveiled more details about the hotel, named Unscripted Wichita. It will feature "155 well-appointed guest rooms and multiple food and beverage offerings. This includes an expansive indoor-outdoor rooftop bar and lounge concept with sweeping views of the downtown skyline and Riverfront Stadium, along with a signature restaurant on the street level." It will be managed by Dream Hotel Group out of New York City.
Kobritz says the project would pull more people to the area.
"People are going to come and eat at the restaurant, maybe get a drink at the bar in the hotel, or other bars or restaurants around here, I'm going to walk over for the event, whether it's a ballpark or some other event. Then even after the game, people are going to go back out in the community, I think they're gonna partake of all the entertainment options that are available around the ballpark, it is going to be a destination unto itself."
The hotel is expected to serve as the anchor for the "Ballpark District", the name Wind Surge and city officials have given to the area that's being developed around Riverfront Stadium.
Wichita Mayor Brandon Whipple says having a area like this can mean a lot to the city as it continues to grow. "This is economic development. This is quality of life. This is supporting small businesses in the area but as we've said, this is also supporting our ability to attract those big businesses that are on the coast or international. “
The hotel, along with two office spaces and a parking garage, is expected to be finished by Summer 2024.
