WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - Wichita police say a driver escaped serious injury when he crashed into a structure at the Kansas Korean War Memorial on Monday.

Officers responded at around 9:30 p.m. to an injury accident at Veterans Memorial Park in the 300 block of North Veterans Pkwy. Police spokesperson Trevor Macy said a 911 caller reported hearing a loud crash and seeing that a car had struck one of the memorials.

Officers arrived to find a white Chevy Camaro that had been damaged after colliding with the structure. The 24-year-old driver was treated on scene.

Macy said in a release that the car was heading north when it went off the roadway and hit the memorial. The release didn't provide a damage estimate or say whether the driver was cited.
