‘Watch your step’: Kansas officials warn about snakes
LAWRENCE, Kan. (KAKE) - Parks officials in Kansas are warning residents about snakes becoming more active in light of recent weather.
Watch your step! Lawrence Parks and Recreation said on Facebook. "With heavy rains and warmer weather, snakes (including copperheads) become more active in many of our parks, their natural habitat, as they venture out and explore."
Officials said the increased activity can lead to more encounters with people and pets.
"If you see a copperhead or other snake, leave it alone– do not attempt to capture, harm or approach it," the department said. "All park wildlife is protected by law."
