BALKO, Okla. (KAKE) — One of two firefighters who were hurt in a rollover crash while battling a wildfire in northwest Oklahoma last month has died.

KOCO reported Monday morning that Balko Fire Department volunteer firefighter Jason Smith had passed away. He an another firefighter, Tyler Morris, were in a water tanker when it rolled down an embankment in early April. The tanker landed on its top in a fire in Beaver County amid zero visibility.

First responders got Smith and Morris out of the truck, but both were badly burned. Smith was taken to a burn unit in Texas and allowed to go home a few weeks later. Authorities announced his death over the weekend.
