A former Lawrence police officer has been arrested for rape while he was on duty.  The Kansas Bureau of Investigation arrested Jonathan Gardner this morning.

Lawrence Police received a report last year from a woman who claimed Gardner raped her while on duty in 2017.

Gardner was arrested for one count of rape, 12 counts of unlawful acts concerning computers and 12 counts of official misconduct.  The computer and misconduct charges accuse Gardner of unlawful searches of the Kansas Criminal Justice Information System, as well as internal police department safety systems.

Gardner, 41, was booked into the Leavenworth County Jail.
