Kansas deputy found shot to death after reports of domestic incident, KBI says
MANKATO, Kan. (KAKE) - State police are investigating the shooting death of a 27-year-old sheriff's deputy in north-central Kansas.
A Jewell County deputy responded early Monday morning to a home on East Madison Street in Mankato. The sheriff's office received two calls from different people following two calls, one at 2:05 a.m. and another at 2:15 a.m., requesting assistance due to a domestic incident in progress, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation said in a release.
The deputy arrived and discovered Deputy Colton Koch had suffered a fatal gunshot wound. He served the sheriff's office for about 2 1/2 years.
The Jewell County Sheriff's Office requested the KBI's assistance at approximately 2:40 a.m. The KBI's release labeled Koch's death as a "suspicious death investigation."
An autopsy has been scheduled.
