WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - Authorities have charged a 26-year-old man accused of driving under the influence and causing a crash that killed one person and injured three others.

Lt. Benjamin Blick with the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office said the extradition unit arrested Gabriel Ortiz at the county jail San Diego, California. Ortiz was transported back to Wichita and charged for second-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter while under the influence, and three counts of aggravated battery.

The arrest stems from a crash that happened on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2020 in the 5600 block of West MacArthur. Lt. Blick said an Infinity SUV crossed the center line and hit a minivan head-on.

A passenger in the minivan, 55-year-old Sonia Lopez, was killed. The minivan's driver and two passengers in the SUV were hospitalized with serious injuries.

Ortiz remains jailed on $200,000 bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for February 7.
