WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - "I'm just happy that I'm here. I'm happy my wife's here. Happy that we get to see another Christmas," said Grover Jackson.

Jackson woke up early Saturday morning to a scary situation when he heard something going on outside of his house on N Kansas St.

"Heard my shepherds barking really bad, knew something was wrong. I looked at the cameras, seen that light in the car. My wife went on the porch and said, somebody's in the car," said Jackson.

Jackson grabbed his pistol and trapped the man inside the car at gunpoint until police arrived.

Later, he found out it was Goldy Metcalf – the man police ended up arresting for murder just three hours later.

"It's really upsetting, you know, that that was the type of guy that I was dealing with. I mean, it could have been a lot worse," said Jackson.

After police took Metcalf from Jackson's house, investigators say they cited him for a misdemeanor and gave him a "courtesy ride" to St Francis Hospital for a previous injury to his mouth.

Police say not long after, Metcalf left St Francis and made his way to N Waco, where he stole a truck that was left running near a dumpster.

Investigators say Metcalf then drove to S Green St where he crashed the truck into a church, then forced his way into a nearby house and stabbed an elderly man and woman, leaving the woman dead.

"I'm really sorry that happened. You know, it's really terrible that this could occur, you know, after being in custody that quickly. I really don't understand that. It's really troubling," said Jackson.

Jackson said while he doesn't understand how this happened because Metcalf had just been in custody and on parole serving time for violent crimes, it still breaks his heart, and he hopes city leaders will find a way to get people the help they need.

"I just think there should be something where people get more help," said Jackson. "You know, he had drug paraphernalia and other stuff. These drugs that are out here now, they have people really crazy."

The only update the Wichita Police Department gave Monday is confirming that Metcalf did not know the victims in any way.
