WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - One of two suspects arrested in the shooting death of a 22-year-old man in Wichita last week has been released from the hospital and booked into jail.

Jail records show 18-year-old Davaun Carter was booked Monday afternoon on suspicion of first-degree murder. A 17-year-old male was previously booked into juvenile detention for first-degree murder.

The shooting happened at around 5:30 p.m. on Monday, November 1. Officers responded to a shooting at an apartment complex in the 300 block of West 10th Street North and arrived to find 22-year-old Braekwon Bennett with multiple gunshot wounds. He died at a local hospital.

Wichita Police Department spokesperson Trevor Macy said the suspect arrived at the apartment and confronted Bennett. An altercation let to shots being fired.

The 18-year-old was also shot, and both suspects fled the apartment. Officer Macy said the suspects later arrived at an area hospital. Carter was admitted for treatment and the 17-year-old was taken into custody after trying to run.

Investigators believe the victim and suspects knew each other.
