Kansas man dies in head-on crash after pickup attempts to pass vehicle

HAYS, Kan. (KAKE) - Authorities say a 56-year-old central Kansas man was killed when a pickup tried to pass a vehicle and hit his car head-on.
The crash happened at around 10:15 a.m. Sunday on U.S. 183 south of Hays. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the driver of a southbound GMC Sierra attempted to pass a vehicle and collided with a northbound Mercury sedan.
The driver of the sedan, James Kohl of Schoenchen, died at the scene.
The 20-year-old Kansas City, Missouri man driving the pickup was transported to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
