WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - Donnie Robinson is heartbroken.

"Friends, you get to pick your friends. And friends got things in common. And my son, he was my friend. And he also was my brother in Christ," said Donnie.

His son, Will Robinson, was shot in the line of duty as a QuikTrip security guard Wednesday. He died at the hospital just two days later.

"It was like 10 o'clock at night. I'm like God, you know what I'm saying, I just started praying," said Robinson.

Donnie said the last time he talked to him was on Sunday, and it was almost like he somehow knew.

"He was just talking about his job, and he was at peace. For some reason, the conversation kind of seemed, what's going on here. You know something? He was at peace with his job. He had fulfilled his destiny, doing what he was doing, security for QT, QuikTrip, helping the homeless," said Donnie.

Donnie said his son was kind-hearted and would do anything for anyone. Robinson also served for years as a Wichita police officer.

"It's always been my passion to help out. And this is the ultimate level of serving and using those skills that I have that help the community," said Will Robinson in a 2016 Facebook video by Wichita Bridal Expo.

Robinson leaves behind a wife, two kids, and countless community members whose lives were touched while he served over the years.

As for Donnie, as hard as the week has been, he said he only has one message he hopes his son's tragic death will spread.

"Where's the outcry for Black-on-Black crimes? Let a white Wichita Police shoot a Black guy, and it's oh, everybody's cryin, right? But where's the outcry for Black-on-Black? I want y'all to ponder that," said Donnie.

GoFundMe has been set up to help Robinson's wife and two children.
