WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - A Wichita woman has been sentenced to 24 months of probation for breaking into a home and killing a man's dog during the burglary.

A court ruled if 32-year-old Hilda Noordhoek violates her probation, she would serve 13 months in prison for burglary and 12 months in jail for animal cruelty.

According to District Attorney Marc Bennett's office, "Noordhoek's lack of criminal history placed her most serious charge, burglary, in the 'presumptive probation' category under Kansas law."

In April of 2018, Robert Miller told police someone had used a brick to smash a window and enter his home. A computer was taken along with headphones and his 10-year-old American Bull Dog, Buffalo Boy, was killed.

Wichita police used a license plate reader program and found Noordhoek's car matched footage used outside Miller's home. Noordhoek and Miller knew each other.

Last month, Noordhoek pled no contest to burglary, theft and cruelty to animals.

As part of her sentencing, a judge ordered Noordhoek to pay $3,236.99 in restitution to Miller. The judge also ordered her to serve a 30-day jail sanction immediately before she begins her probation for cruelty to animals.

Noordhoek was ordered to get a substance abuse and mental health evaluation and follow the recommendations of the psychological evaluation.

Noordhoek is to have no contact with any pets except ones she already owns.
