Wichita mom arrested after telling daughter she'd been shot as April Fools' joke
WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - Wichita police say a dangerous April Fools joke Thursday morning could have led to people getting hurt.
Officers responded at around 8:30 a.m. to a 911 call of a woman shot in her home in the 4800 block of East Arlene, near 21st and Oliver. Lt. Ron Hunt said a woman, identified as 58-year-old Arnthia Willis, called her daughter, told her she'd been shot and hung up.
The daughter said she immediately called 911 and then rushed over to the home. Police arrived in full protective gear with guns drawn and EMS in tow.
Police spokesperson Charley Davidson said officers surrounded the home, blocked streets and tried to make contact with anyone inside. When no one responded to them, officers broke down the door and found no one inside.
The daughter said that's when she learned her mother was at work and this all had been an April Fools joke.
Willis was been arrested and booked for unlawful request of emergency service assistance. She was held without bond early Friday morning.
