KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KAKE) - A 5-year-old girl has awakened from a coma following a crash earlier this month involving former Kansas City Chiefs linebackers coach Britt Reid.

"Ariel is awake," according to an update posted Monday on a GoFundMe for Ariel's medical expenses.

The crash happened on Thursday, February 4. Authorities said Britt Reid's truck slammed into a car that had run out of gas at I-435 and Stadium Drive and an SUV with two children — ages 4 and 5 — inside.

KMBC
reports Britt Reid is under investigation for "impairment." A police search warrant shows Reid told an officer he had two to three drinks prior to the crash.

Britt Reid is the son of Chiefs head coach Andy Reid.

According to a report last week, Britt is no longer employed by the team. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported he was "placed on leave with the Chiefs through the duration of his contract, which has since expired and he no longer is an employee with the club."

The crash occurred three days before Kansas City played in the Super Bowl in Tampa Bay, losing to the Buccaneers. Britt Reid did not travel with the team for the championship game.

The GoFundMe for Ariel has raised over $490,000 as of Tuesday morning.
