(KAKE) - The McPherson Housing Coalition started in 2007 with a simple goal: to make sure everyone can have a place to call home.

“We believe everyone deserves a nice place to live,” said executive director, Chris Goodson.

From those who are already homeless, to community members who are struggling, they help connect people to affordable housing.

“We have people who are living in hotels, or in their cars, or they’re couch surfing,” said Goodson.

They also do an annual event with hundreds of people who do yard work and minor home repairs for seniors across McPherson County.

Helping their neighbors and shining a light on housing needs that became so evident in 2020.

“During this pandemic I think it has really pointed out nationally why housing is so important,” said Goodson.

Right now, they are seeking donations and volunteers to help build their new Oak Harbor Cottages which will be ten tiny homes for families in crisis.

“Everyone deserves a place to live. Everyone. No matter their circumstances, no matter who they are. They all deserve a place to live,” said Goodson.

KAKE News and the DeVaughn James Injury Lawyers are honored to present the McPherson Housing Coalition with a $500 check as this week’s “Wins for Kansas” recipient.

“Thank you so much KAKE TV and DeVaughn James. This money is going to go toward helping us build our cottages and it will be used for years to come. Thank you thank you,” said Goodson.
