SALINA, Kan. (KAKE) - The Rolling Hills Zoo (RHZ) announced the addition of a snow leopard.

The RHZ said in a press release that 18-month-old Sherman, also known as Silver, completed his 30 day quarantine and has been moved to the zoo's snow leopard exhibit where guests can now see him.

Sherman comes from the Seneca Park Zoo from Rochester, New York. He was the first offspring of Seneca Park Zoo's female snow leopard, Timila.

Sherman is described as "friendly, outgoing and playfully curious."

While exact numbers are unknown, the zoo said there may be as few as 3,920 and probably no more than 6,390 snow leopard left in the wild.

"As an active participant in the Association of Zoos & Aquarium’s Snow Leopard Species Survival Plan, the RHZ is working to move research and knowledge of snow leopards forward in effort to save this species from extinction," the zoo said.

Back in May of 2020, the zoo announced the death of its 10-year-old snow leopard, Gobi.
