Some good old-fashioned snail mail has residents at an east Wichita assisted living home grinning from ear to ear, and whipping out their pen and paper.

These letters coming in from strangers, lifting spirits and igniting the "Pen Pal Program" at Brookdale Tallgrass Assisted Living.

Some pen pal letters have even been coming in from other states, and it all started with a Facebook post.

 

In this time of isolation, something that might take you just a couple minutes to do, means everything to these residents.

"It's surprising to me when these youngsters are interested in the old folks," says resident Elfreda.
