(KAKE) - The Liberal office of St. Francis Ministries advocates for children in DCF custody while working to reintegrate them with their families.

“We are extremely happy when a child returns home to a parent who has improved their situation. We wish it could be celebrated just as adoptions are, if not more,” said Jessica Martinez, a permanency specialist with St. Francis Ministries.

They advocate for the kids before, during, and after reintegration or adoption.

They also make sure these children aren’t forgotten during the holidays.

“Every year we ensure that each kid in our custody receives a gift for Christmas and this year we are raising money for 70 children,” said Martinez.

COVID-19 has made it more difficult to raise those funds. So they are relying on letters, word of mouth and social media to get the money they need to make sure kids have a present on Christmas morning.

“Every child deserves a Merry Christmas. If you would like to help give a child who is in foster care a gift, please contact us or your local St. Francis office,” said Martinez.

KAKE News and the DeVaughn James Injury Lawyers are honored to present St. Francis Ministries- Liberal, a $500 check as this week’s “Wins for Kansas” recipient.

“Thank you KAKE TV and DeVaughn James, this money will be used for Christmas for Kids for the Liberal St. Francis office. Thank you!”
